Why do I hate make-up?
To be honest, I use to hate make-up. I know that is crazy to say, but I did not like the feeling of it on my skin, or the precious minutes of sleep it takes away from me so I can put it on. If I could avoid putting it on I would.
The reason for my hatred comes from the fact that I tend to rub my eyes and rest my hand against my face a lot during the day, which does not mix well with make-up. Before my acne and scarring I use to never wear make-up, I loved my natural skin, even my freckles! I just liked the feeling of my skin breathing throughout the day and not worrying about if my make-up was messed up or not.
But I need make-up sometimes…
However, there are times in life when wearing make-up becomes appropriate in certain situations. When my summer internship was approaching my skin was mainly scarring and a few pimples, not bad but on a pale person it was bright red so very noticeable.
My internship dress code is business professional, which means suits four days of the week with jeans day on Friday. The dress code also called for me to be well-groomed and presentable. Now my employer isn’t forcing me to wear make-up by any means, but showing up to work in a business suit and bright red acne and scarring in my mind did not seem presentable. No, I don’t think my employer will think badly of me since when I was interviewed my acne was so bad no make-up covered it. It was more about me feeling confident.
While I did hate make-up, knowing that my face wasn’t bright red with scaring and acne gave me confidence, as I felt presentable and professional. This lead to me looking for make-up that wouldn’t break out my sensitive skin, but would cover to my satisfaction. After coming out of Ulta orange a few too many times I was about ready to give up when I decided to try a Ulta while I was on a trip.
Simple Make-up Routine for Sensitive Acne Prone Skin
This one employee helped me and I’ll forever be thankful. She did not try to sell me on a whole line of products but only gave me the products I needed. I wanted a make-up that wasn’t heavy but diminished the brightness of my scarring. She introduced me to the Tarte brand, which is a natural make-up brand so it doesn’t break me out. The Tarte Double Duty Beauty Confidence Creamy Powder Foundation is what I use and love for everyday at my internship.
Then because I just naturally have dark circles under my eyes no matter how much sleep I get, she introduced me to BECCA Under Eye Brightening Corrector and that is it. No primer, blush, or bronzer. Just enough to do what I wanted, but not too much that it felt heavy or caked on. While you could use a primer, personally I feel like it stays on all day without a problem and I sweat a lot in the summer. Then to finish it off I use the Tarte Lippie Lingerie Matte Tint in Exposed for some color on my lips.
- Apply the BECCA Under Eye Brightening Corrector under your eyes where you have the purple-blue tint
- Then apply the Tarte Double Duty Beauty Confidence Creamy Powder Foundation in a circular motion all across your face.
- Finish with Lippie Lingerie Matte Tint in Exposed on the lips
I absolutely love the all-natural aspect of Tarte and don’t feel bad putting it on my skin. This is the make-up brand for the make-up haters because I hated wearing make-up, but I love what Tarte has and could not be happier.
