On Pinterest, I am always seeing what to pack for trips or types of clothing to pack, but I find it hard to get recommendations of places to buy clothing. And let’s be honest in America most of the styles are not going to fly in Europe or Asia or Africa, etc. Especially in the summer, dresses are short now you better not bend over, whereas overseas modesty comes into play.
To enter sacred places your knees and shoulders need to be covered. Yes, you can easily cover your shoulders with a shawl or jacket, but it is better to have your knees covered with the outfit itself instead of trying to wrap a scarf around them outside the site. This led me to seek lesser known sites for modest, but summer appropriate for hot climates. You might have to shuffle out a few more dollars for these sites, but you’ll end up with clothing that has a higher chance of lasting more than one season. And you’ll save yourself from being that tourist in booty shorts buying a scarf to cover down to your knees.
Home vs. Travel Clothing
So let’s be honest. While we have many clothes for our at home life, when it comes to traveling sometimes you need some items you may not have. You probably don’t want to be wearing business professional all around Europe. For one, those types of shoes may not last you five minutes on cobblestone streets and your feet will be crying out each night. I want to let you know my secret places of where I shop for travel clothes.
Now I do want to put out there that I do not have specific “travel clothes” and “home clothes”. When I am not traveling my job allows me to wear leggings and tennis shoes (in my opinion the best kind of job). Then outside of work I love to wear dresses in the summer and leggings in the winter. So basically my wardrobe is intermixed and I am more of a relaxed dresser.
Travel clothes don’t have to be just travel clothes, but they are often more comfortable for all the walking, hiking, long flights, and more.
My Favorite Clothing Sites
This is one of my favorite stores when it comes to finding dresses, especially for the summer. Much of their apparel is made out of a quick drying material and made for being outdoors and sweating. Not to mention their dresses in the summer are my favorite, super cute and well designed as most of them have built-in bras.
Now I am someone who does not like wearing jean shorts, but skirts tend to hit me funny. This is why you tend to find me in dresses or leggings, that is until I found Athletic and their skorts. Now skorts are something I wore growing-up, but now they look like skirts! In my opinion it makes them so much sportier and this is where I get mine from. Athletic also has really nice linen pants for those summer trips to hot places. While I am typically not a linen pant person, like I said before I don’t like shorts and these linen pants are super soft and comfortable.
When you’re going on more of a luxury vacation and aren’t expecting to do a lot of hiking and such Boden USA is your place. While it is definitely a pricer place I do not buy items full price as they tend to have sales quite often around the holidays. However, while they are high-priced the quality of the clothing is really stellar and will last for more than one season.
Luca and Grae
I am a huge fan of the store Luca and Grae because one of my favorite Youtubers Aspen Ovard and Parker Ferris started this clothing company. Having always loved Aspen’s style, the store is handpicked items all done by Aspen herself. She wears her own clothing when she travels and they have even started carrying home decor, which they use in their own home as well.
Known for their outdoor gear and travel accessories, they surprised me and actually had some incredibly cute dresses this summer. However, that being said I do not think I’ve actually ever order directly from their site. This is a company that is in a lot of other stores, and personally I found them in a boutique shop in my town.
Again, this is another store that does have an online store, but I first found them in another store like Patagonia. I first found them through Title Nine, but have since ordered from their site directly as they have a bunch more colors to choose from. From yoga to travel and everything in between, PrAna is a great option for travel outfits. Their summer dresses are made out of a good wicking material to keep you cool while you’re exploring new places.
Old Navy and Gap
Of course you have to include the classics and this is where I love to get my basics from like basic shirts and cardigans. Just thought I’d include this one to the list as it is often overlooked sometimes.
There you have it! My favorite places to find what I need to be comfortable, functional, and cute on trips. Remember to be yourself, dress in what you feel comfortable, but do remember to respect other countries as you are visiting them.
